    You could have the shadow coming towards her be her dad or brother and they have a secret underground clubhouse or something like that!

    I think that you should have the shadow figure be some kind of "boss" of an underground operation which is making kids think and work all day in order for the "boss" to have an idea for an invention. The kids should be like slaves and they can never leave!
